Funeral home completes arrangements for late former Sen. Cochran

Funeral arrangements are complete for former U.S. Senator Thad Cochran, the Republican who represented Mississippi for more than four decades. Visitation will be held June 2 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the University of Mississippi's Robert Khayat Law Center in Oxford. The first of two funerals will follow June 3 at 11 a.m. at the State Capitol in Jackson. The second funeral will be held June 4 at 11 a.m. at Northminster Baptist Church, also in Jackson. Cochran died Thursday in Oxford at the age of 81.

Sanderson Farms Increases Pay Rates for Hourly Employees

LAUREL, Miss. (May 28, 2019) – Sanderson Farms, Inc. announced today that it will increase pay rates for the Company’s hourly employees beginning Sunday, June 2, 2019. The decision is part of the Company’s effort to recruit and retain employees in today’s competitive business environment. Once the pay increase is implemented, hourly line operators who have been employed with the Company for at least 90 days will be compensated to an increased rate of at least $15.00 an hour. Representatives: Thad Cochran dies

Representatives for former U.S. Senator Thad Cochran confirm he died Thursday morning in Oxford at the age of 81. Cochran served in the U.S. Navy. He later served as chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee and Senate Agriculture Committee. In April of 2018, after serving in the Senate for more than four decades, Cochran resigned due to health concerns. Funeral services for Cochran are pending.
