As the need for blood donations remains high, the Hattiesburg Jaycees are preparing for the annual Labor of Love Blood Drive on August 28th from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Vitalant, located at 805 South 28th Avenue in Hattiesburg. Vitalant and the Jaycees will follow all social distancing measures, officials said. Donors are asked to wear masks during the blood drive, officials added. HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss Department of Athletics announced Thursday that the Golden Eagle football team will move its season opener up two days, while also adding a pair of home 2020 contests to replace the two games that were canceled last month. Southern Miss will now open its season, Thursday, Sept. 3, against South Alabama, at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium. The Hattiesburg Public School District tells FOX23 News the start of the 2020-2021 academic year has been postponed until August 17th. The HPSD provided the following information explaining Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the restart and recovery Plan: • Phase 1 (August 17th - September 4th): All schools will return using online virtual/distance learning as the form of instruction for all students grades Pre-K - 12. • Phase 2 (September 8th - October 19th): Schools will begin in-person hybrid instruction for students on alternating assigned days according to a student's last name.
