Hattiesburg Area Habitat and Fox 23 ~ Companies that Care

April 2, 2015

Hattiesburg, MS – Hattiesburg Area Habitat for Humanity is pleased to begin our second Companies that Care Home Rehab project. “Companies that Care” is a program of FOX 23 TV and Hattiesburg Habitat. This program offers necessary home improvements to low-income homeowners. FOX 23 TV partners with local businesses who believe in giving back to the community. Habitat accepts applications from families who need critical home repairs and shares the family stories of those who qualify with FOX 23 TV. FOX 23 TV airs the family's stories and asks for viewers to vote for the family who will receive the repair. Volunteer teams work to complete the home repairs at minimal cost to homeowners who would be unable to complete these repairs on their own.

Our first Companies that Care Home Rehab recipient was Judith Reid of Hattiesburg.

Judith is 62 years old, a cancer survivor, and is battling some dementia. Judith’s son Steven was struggling to complete repairs to damage caused during Hurricane Katrina and the Tornado. At the time Judith had no flooring under her kitchen cabinets and had frequent critter-visitors. After Habitat repaired several floor joists, replaced the floor covering and cabinets, put on a fresh coat of paint inside and out, Judith's kitchen was brand new and safe to use again. "Thank you FOX 23 Viewers and Companies that Care! My mother has dealt with so much adversity. It has been a long struggle finding her the help she needs. This is truly a blessing beyond belief!" said Steven, after the rehab was complete.

Who will be next?
