Laurel, MS - The Laurel Housing Authority held an event to raise awareness about breast cancer detection. The "Lets Pink Up" event encourages routine habits to detect breast cancer at an early stage.
Mary Horn, speaker and breast cancer survivor mentions, "Early detection is key to success for living. If it had not been for early detection I don't know if I would be standing here."
The Susan G. Komen Foundation mentions, "As mammography screening rates have increased, more cases of breast cancer have been found at earlier stages, when chances of survival are highest."
Mayor Magee was present to support the Laurel community and encourages healthy habits. He says, "It's great because so many times in the minority community we don't stress healthcare as much as we should but it is very important. I am grateful of the turn out."
Magee also mentions that it is important for men to check themselves too.
