Forrest General Hospital Opens New Department

Forrest County, MS - Being hospitalized with a serious illness can be difficult and confusing. Forrest General Hospital opened a new department, the Palliative and Supportive Care Team, which is staffed by Dr. Jacob Graham and Registered Nurse Amber Chancelor. Both help patients with their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.

Chancelor says, "We are all about improving patients quality of life when they are facing a serious illness."

The program has been in full throttle since August and has served around 125 patients. They even added creative therapy into their assessment plans. Chancelor continues, "Pet therapy and music therapy help patients because they both decrease stress and it helps patients focus on something different.

The department says that palliative care is appropriate at any age and stage with serious illness and can be provided along with curative treatment.
