Hattiesburg, MS - The Southern Chorale is a choir full of passionate students and instructors.
Conductor, Dr. Gregory Fuller shared his thoughts on how this year will be.
"We've had a really great year. This is a year of opportunity for us, with some great performance opportunities nationally. I have great students this year and they've worked very hard and getting ready to travel soon."
The Southern Chorale are one of the only few best groups nationally to be selected to play at Portland State University next weekend. This is their first endeavor this school year, but Dr. Fuller told me how he is preparing his choral.
"I take the voices and we work on bringing these voices together in a sense of unity and we prepare music that is really written for acoustic concert choir. My job is to bring all those components together."
His student's voices will be playing a piece that was written in tribute to Mississippi and the Mississippi Delta Blues. I spoke to the man who composed this music for The Southern Chorale and he told me what inspired him to write this piece.
Composer, Tonu Korvits said, "Nature is very important, which really inspires me. But of course, nature and landscape are nothing without human beings. Humans around me of course, also inspire me. And of course, music inspires me. I think it's pretty much everything."
