HPD on the Move

Hattiesburg, Miss. - The Hattiesburg Police Department is getting ready to relocate.

A few months ago, city council approved funding for a new station.

In about 6-8 months, the Hattiesburg Police Department will temporarily relocate to the old Hattiesburg Grocery building on clondike, while demolition takes place at the current police station.

Lt. Jon Traxler said, "It'll probably take about 2-2.5 years for that process to be completed for us to move from here to the temporary, and then demolition, construction. To move into the new building, one the updated process with all the equipment that will all be in there as well as space, better space for the people, the quality of the building itself. It takes more to heat, cool, and keep it maintained, and so because of that, with going into a new building, we'll have better things there than what we have now."

Both the Hattiesburg Police and Fire departments will share the new complex.
