Driver avoids deer leads to six car collision on Interstate 59
HATTIESBURG, Miss - Around 7 a.m. a six car collision happened on the I-59 northbound lanes before Hardy street near West Fourth street and the Long Leaf Trail bridge.
Lieutenant Traxler of the Hattiesburg Police Department says that it was two separate car accidents. One vehicle tried to avoid hitting a deer, which then caused a chain reaction and completely closed the northbound lanes.
"It took crews over a little over an hour to get everything cleared up and get all the vehicles moving again" Lt. Traxler says.
No serious injuries were reported only a few minor scratches and bruises.
However, Lt. Traxler warns passerby to move to the side of the road and park if they want to take footage of an accident to avoid any further injuries, as one officer was nearly hit by a driver taking footage.
