PETAL, Miss - This is a press release from the Petal Fire Department.
The citizens of the City of Petal may soon find savings on their home insurance bills due to an improved fire protection rating obtained by the City of Petal Fire Department.
The Mississippi rating bureau, which surveys commercial and personal properties to evaluate the fire protection capabilities of local governments in the United States, announced this week that it was increasing the Cities fire protection rating from a 6 rating to a 5 rating.
"This is just the beginning for us," says Sims, Assistant Chief of the Petal Fire Department.
The rating is based on a 1-10 scale, where the higher ratings tend to translate into higher insurance premiums for homeowners. The rating bureau sends their ratings to insurance companies, which set homeowners premiums based on the ratings.
The new fire rating for the City of Petal will become effective February 24, 2016. Beginning now, property owners in the City of Petal can call their insurance providers to be sure their fire insurance premiums reflect this new rating status.
