USM President speaks on HB 1523
Hattiesburg, Miss. - After Governor Phil Bryant signed the new House Bill 1523 law, some people have been supporting it and others have been against it.
And one of those who stands against it, is the University of Southern Miss.
Southern Miss President, Dr. Rodney Bennett stated that he is happy to continue the university's commitment to diversity and inclusion in effort to have diverse individuals to carry out the mission and vision of Southern Miss.
Here is the full statement from President Bennett.
The Executive Committee of the University’s Faculty Senate has asked if I would reaffirm our institutional nondiscrimination policy in light of recent legislation impacting our state. In addition, the University’s Student Government Association has indicated that their senators are drafting a related resolution.
I am happy to confirm the University’s continuing commitment to diversity and inclusion, as our path to the top includes a broad spectrum of diverse individuals who challenge each of us to be our best selves and to carry out the mission and vision of The University of Southern Mississippi.
