FORREST COUNTY, Miss. - Hattiesburg City Council approved a measure to build a wastewater treatment system.
The system will cover 600-acres of the Forrest County School District's 16th Section land in-between Perry and Forrest County.
It will also benefit both the Forrest and Petal School Districts in the long-run, as both districts could be splitting millions of dollars.
Brian Freeman, Forrest County School District’s superintendent said, "It's only dealing with one section. Of course we have a total of ten that we manage in the county. But, we will be able to harvest the tree's quicker. I'm not going to say it will double the time that we can have the tree's harvested, but it will accelerate that process. So not all the money will come to Forrest County, but over half will."
Freeman said a million dollars could be reached within a 12-to-14-year period.
