Southern Miss destroys Marshall, 9-3

May 27, 2016

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - After a dominating performance against Old Dominion, the Golden Eagles were hoping to emulate that performance Thursday night against Marshall.

Head coach, Scott Berry said, "They're a team that is playing really well together and I think from top to bottom."

Marshall didn't waste any time in the first inning as the Thundering Herd scored two runs.

But, the Golden Eagles bounced back and scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Catcher, Chuckie Robinson said, "We've been hitting the ball well all year. We kind of went through a thing the later part of conference. But we went back to our identity, we're just feeding off each other, not having selfish at-bats."

The Golden Eagles kept the momentum going in the third inning. And that's when Jake Sandlin hit a grand slam, which pretty much put the game away.

Outfielder, Jake Sandlin said, "100 percent, I knew I got it. On a scale of 1-10, I hit it about a 12. I don't think I'm going to hit anyone better than that any time soon."

The Golden Eagles won 9-3 and are scheduled to play Saturday for a ticket to play in the championship.
