Lightning strike kills Lumberton man

LAMAR COUNTY, Miss. - A Lumberton man died yesterday evening from a lighting strike.

Charles Whorton III, 24, was pronounced dead at Forrest General Hospital at 6:06 pm according Forrest County Coroner Lisa Klem.

Lamar County Emergency Management James Smith said the incident occurred on Pines Burr Road, "two men were on a driveway next to a truck, when they heard a loud pop and the other man saw the bolt hit."

Smith said first responders continued CPR all the way to the hospital.
