Petal police officer loses house in weekend fire, department sets up fund
OAK GROVE, Miss. - A Petal Police Officer's house caught on fire Saturday night.
The incident occurred on 81 Griffith Road. Petal Police Department spokeswoman Miranda Williams said, "Officer Mickey Hurt woke up to his wife saying the house was on fire."
Williams said no one was injured during the fire and the cause is still under investigation. "Everyone was able to get out safely, but they did lose everything even their vehicles" said Williams.
The Petal Police department set up a fund to help raise money for Officer Hurt and his family at any Bancorp South.
"The Police Department has secured a storage unit to take in donations of clothing, furniture and housewares. There is also a go fund me account set up for him by his family online" said Williams.
Williams added, "The department is grateful for such an outpouring of support they have already received from the community during this time."
If you would like to donate money at any Bancorp South you can donate to this account: "Benefit Account for Officer Mickey Hurt."
