Southern Pines Hosts 4th Annual Quin’s Day, Adoption Fee-Waived

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The following is a press release from the Southern Pines Animal Shelter.

Southern Pines Animal Shelter is hosting its fourth annual Quin’s Day in honor and memory of Quin Thomson, a 17-year-old Sacred Heart student who passed away in an automobile accident in 2013.

Quin had a love for animals, especially his cat, and so each year, Southern Pines celebrates his life and love for animals by helping homeless pets to find their homes during this special event.

This year, as part of Quin’s Day, Southern Pines will be waiving the adoption fees for all cats and kittens as well as for a large selection of dogs both at the shelter and offsite at the Hattiesburg PetSmart location in hopes of completing 100 adoptions.

Adoptions include age appropriate vaccines, spay/neuter surgery, a microchip, 30 days of pet health insurance, an engraved ID tag, and a bag of food.

"Each year, we look forward to Quin’s Day and the opportunity to help fill our community with love by bringing together homeless pets and forever families in honor and memory of a special young man. This year, we wanted Quin’s Day to help even more homeless pets, and so we’ve decided to grow the event to include dogs for the first time," said Ginny Sims, Shelter Director.

“We hope that folks will come out, find a new dog or cat to join their family, and share in this special day with us" added Sims.

This year, Southern Pines is inviting members of the public who would like to make a donation in Quin’s memory to help sponsor the adoption of a homeless pet.

These donations will help the shelter reach its goal of 100 adoptions during Quin’s Day.

"Typically, the cost of a fee-waived adoption event to the shelter is between $5,000 and $7,500 in order to ensure that all of the animals are up to date on vaccines, are spayed and neutered, and receive the necessary things to prepare them for adoption,” said Sims.

She said, “Donations from the public allow us to do more to save more lives than ever before, and this is a great way to see your donation make a difference.”

The event will run from 10am-5pm on Saturday July 23.
