HATTIESBURG, Miss. - This is a press release from Southern Pines Animal Shelter.
In the aftermath of the devastating flooding in Louisiana, Southern Pines Animal Shelter is providing relief and shelter for fifty cats, previously available for adoption in Louisiana shelters, in order to create space in those local communities for animals rescued, lost, and displaced by the flooding.
"Hattiesburg helps. It is something that is an important part of our community, whether facing our own disasters or watching our neighbors fight to overcome hardships," said Ginny Sims, Director of Southern Pines Animal Shelter.
"And for Southern Pines, that means answering the call for these adoptable pets whose shelters are being inundated with lost and displaced animals as a result of flooding. We are so eager and excited to help these pets find loving forever homes."
The cats will be arriving at Southern Pines from Louisiana on Tuesday, and will be available for adoption by Tuesday afternoon at around 1pm. Southern Pines will be holding a special fee-waived adoption event for all of their available feline residents from August 26th-28th in order to help these cats move into new homes right away.
Donations will be accepted to help offset the cost of care and housing for this population of cats. Southern Pines is also asking for donations of litter, litter pans, cat toys, and wet cat food in order to help these cats get settled in at the shelter.
