Enroll America's Get Covered Academy in Hattiesburg
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Health and community organization representatives from across the state prepared for the 2017 enrollment period by participating in Enroll America's Get Covered Academy.
The academy is a 2-day training and year long coaching program for community organizations involved in assisting consumers with Health Insurance Marketplace enrollment and education.
Officials said Mississippi is 1 of 24 communities nationwide selected to host the training. The goal of the program is to combat the loss health coverage.
According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, 108, 672 Mississippians enrolled in Marketplace coverage during the 2016 open enrollment period.
In March 2016 77,747 Mississippians were still enrolled, while nearly 28% dropped or lost their coverage.
Health Help Mississippi Hattiesburg Manager Debbie Smith said, "Consumers need to be aware of how to use their plan effectively and know where to seek assistance if they have any problems using their health coverage."
This year the marketplace is adding an advance scheduling system in hopes to retain Marketplace members.
Smith said, "I think it will made it a lot easier, and I know that Enroll America has launched this in other places in the country."
"It has improved appointment times, and it has increased enrollment" added Smith.
Open enrollment begins November 1.
