Local restaurants donating to natural disaster victims

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Crescent City Grill and Purple Parrot Cafe is whipping up two dishes that will benefit those affected by the floods in Louisiana and earthquake in Amatrice, Italy.

When residents purchase either the Jambalaya or Amatrice pasta dishes, 100% of its proceeds will help those natural disaster victims.

Crescent City Manager, Jared Patterson said both restaurants will continue its fundraiser until September 11.

Patterson said, "It is devastating you have thousand year monuments that turned intro crumbles."

"We have all been in a position where we felt we needed it (help) or wanted it (help) " added Patterson.

Extra Table, a non-profit organization, will help direct the funds that are raised to the proper donating agencies. Executive Director Michael Dixon said, "We want to raise as much money as we can, so every dollar that is raised, every penny goes to purchase foods."

Dixon said Hatiesburg is lucky to have missed the floods and especially Hurricane Hermione. "For any of those who have lived here pretty long, lived through tornadoes, lived through Katrina, know what it feels like to feel easily forgotten" added Dixon.
