BREAKING: Reverend Kenneth Fairley found guilty on all 3 counts

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Reverend Kenneth Fairley was found guilty on all three charges Monday afternoon at the downtown Federal Courthouse.

Fairley, 62, was guilty of two counts of theft of government funds and one count of conspiracy to defraud the government with money received from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Developments (HUD), that is allocated through grants by the city of Hattiesburg.

After closing arguments from both the prosecutors and defense team ended around 11 a.m. it took the jurors 6 hours to unanimously vote Rev. Fairley guilty.

Just before 5:30 p.m. jurors informed the courtroom of their verdict. Reverend Kenneth Fairley was taken into handcuffs and transferred to Forrest County jail.

Fairley's main attorney's Bertram Marks and Arnold Spencer said, "no comment." One of the assistant attorney's told FOX 23 news, "We were happy with the closing arguments, at this time we will look back at the documents."

During closing arguments Monday morning Assistant U.S. Attorney Abe McGlothlin said, "We have provided you with the facts of this case, we proved everything we set out to."

He added, "Not only was it wrong, it was criminal."

During Fairley's closing argument, Marks told jurors helping people is not a crime, but charity.

Marks said directly to the jurors, "You are a criminal because you did something good and well?"

"The government did not prove its case" said Marks. He added, "I am so disappointed at the governments presentation."

Reverend Fairley's sentencing date will be held November 21.
