October 7, 2016

HATTIESBURG, Miss.  Jadyen Cunningham, 12, of Sumrall donated all of her bake sale money to Extra Table Thursday.

Jadyen is an aspiring pastry chef and wanted to help her community feed the hungry. She raised $1,000 by baking and selling sweets and cakes.

She said, "My mom actually used to bake a lot of pound cakes." Jadyen added, "I just wanted to learn how to do it. She taught me and I just started liking to do it for my family."

Jadyen's mother, Lakeisha Cunningham said she is very proud of her daughter. "She has done an extremely good job in setting up this charity for the hungry."

Extra Table's Robert St. John said he was shocked when he found out a 12-year-old girl wanted to donate all of her money.

"I think it is extremely impressive for a 12-year-old young lady to undertake something like this on her own" said St. John also who manages multiple restaurants in Hattiesburg.

He added, "She took the initiative to bake which is impressive itself." Jadyen said she donated to national organizations in the past, but wanted to help her neighbors in the Pine Belt.

"I feel very good, I feel like I am doing the right thing" said Jadyen. Extra Table said all of the money will go towards their mission in feeding people with healthy meals.

"We'll take that $1,000 and we'll use 100% of it to purchase healthy food for citizens in this area" said St. John.

He added, "A lot of them who are around the age of Jadyen"
