Jones county placed under 'Burn Ban'

JONES COUNTY, Miss. - This is a press release from t Jones County Volunteer Fire Department.


After brush and woods fires have swept through the area, Jones County has officially been added to the ever-increasing list of Burn Ban locations in Mississippi. As of 5:09 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2016,


Jones County is under a Burn Ban, which means absolutely no burning outside. This includes but is not limited to, brush piles, grass, leaves, trash, camp fires, and wooded areas.


The Jones County Sheriff's Department will be enforcing the Burn Ban. According to the Mississippi Forestry Commission, "Any person who knowingly and willfully violates a burning ban is guilty of a misdemeanor and may be fined not less than $100 and not more than $500.  Section 49-19-351 of MS Code of 1972, as amended. Burn bans are enforced by the local Sheriff's Department."
