HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Cineflix is showcasing various films from different filmmakers at the Grand Theater.
Two artists have films depicting some of the societal issues that are going on around the United States.
“Popolo” actor, Quantae Love said, "It's about a special forces officer that comes back from Afghanistan to fulfill a best friend's dream of opening an MMA gym in Hawaii. And two, the controversy of the black/white issues, the racial issues in Hawaii. So it brings a lot of issues to the forefront about our movie and what we're doing."
“Among the Discarded” filmmaker, Trent Dion Soto said, "I lived on the streets of Skid Row, Los Angeles and I have a powerful documentary about that experience called, 'Among the Discarded,' just me and a Go-pro camera. No crew, no body guards, no nothing."
"I'm grateful for the opportunity because homelessness isn't going away and I'm grateful that I'm able to share that message with people because the most common response at the end of my film, people come and say, 'you made me think.' And if I can do that or any artist can get people thinking about their circumstances and how to improve them, then we've done our job," said Soto.
The last day of the event will be Thursday.
