HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The City of Hattiesburg is getting closer to having the lagoon as the primary method for the wastewater treatment problems.
Mayor of Hattiesburg, Johnny DuPree said, "We keep the lagoon we're saving $135 million if we continue to have the lagoons operate the way they're operating. We have also an air defuse system. And that defuse system is just what it says, it defuses air, but it's underneath and not the surface. We've been really blessed not violating any of the nutrient levels limits the EQ has placed on us. We'd like to keep that going as we can."
Mayor DuPree said there are still contract negotiations going on with the water system, but his goal is to make sure the lagoon operates at the highest and most efficient level it can operate.
