Apartment building catches fire, 8 families relocate
WAYNESBORO, Miss. - An apartment building at Fieldcrest Apartments on 135 Russel Drive caught fire Saturday and has 8 different families relocating.
A Fieldcrest Apartment worker said the cause of the fire is unknown and is under investigation, but the 8 families have relocated.
One resident, Regina Frank said the fire caught her and her family by surprise. "I saw flames from the middle window right there just burst out." Frank added, "I had to go back out and get my husband and he was still inside moving kind of slow."
The family said they are fortunate the fire took materials and not their lives.
Regina's husband, Richard Frank said they slept in a hotel for two nights and the housing authority program helped them relocate. "I would have been sleeping in my van, me and my family" said Frank.
He added, "I owe all my praises to my Savior God, cause He is a good might God, He answered my prayer."
A representative at Fieldcrest Apartment said all 8 families either utilized a housing authority program, assistance from local non-profit organizations, or were fortunate enough to stay with relatives.
