ELLISVILLE, Miss. - South Jones will be traveling to Laurel to take on the Golden Tornadoes Friday night.
Laurel is 7-1 and South Jones is 7-2.
South Jones head coach, Cory Reynolds said, "I'm really impressed what they do offensive and defensive. Coach Breland does a good job with them. This is my third year here and that's where we're trying to get our program to. Athletic wise, they run and can compete with the best in anybody in the state."
Laurel is led by their star quarterback, Tyquan Ulmer, who's thrown 21 touchdowns so far this season, while completing 68 percent of his passes, and throwing for over 200 yards a game.
"We're going to have to keep the ball out of their hands. We're going to have to eat up some clock. We're going to have to protect the football. They make people pay when you turn the ball over, because they're a quick strike offense. So we're going to have to play mistake free," said Reynolds.
The Braves are led by their running back, Ricky Boleware.
"I'm just a power running back. I'm not much on juking. I just try to hit people and get as many yards as I can," said Boleware.
Laurel has some very talented tall receivers in Dontario Drummond and Je'Vah Jones. South Jones' defensive backs are not that big, so they must rely on their technique.
"We just got to be physical with them and just rough them up a little bit,” said South Jones defensive back, Ryne Sasser.
Many people have Laurel winning this game.
But, the Braves are not paying too much attention to that, and they want this win bad.
"That would be huge for us, because we haven't beaten them in a long time, and nobody is expecting us to win this game," said Sasser.
"This would be great. It would be huge for the school, huge for the program, and be a good thing to have," said Reynolds.
The game will be at Laurel High School.
Game time is at 7 p.m.
