Six Injured In Two Vehicle Collision
JONES COUNTY, Miss. - This is a press release from the Jones County Volunteer Fire Department.
10:07 P.M. Update: The female occupant in the pickup truck has been upgraded from moderate condition to serious condition. The child that is in life-threatening condition is being transported to Jackson for further treatment.
9:40 P.M.: Six people, including three adults and three children, sustained injuries in a two vehicle accident Monday night. At around 7:20PM, units from Glade and Powers Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene of the two vehicle accident near the intersection of Highway 15 South and Lower Myrick Road. When firefighters and Emergency Medical Responders arrived on scene, they found two heavily damaged vehicles - a pickup truck and an SUV - blocking both lanes of the highway. Both vehicles sustained major damaged to their front-ends.
According to reports, the two adult occupants of the pickup truck were trapped in the vehicle and both were extricated by firefighters using hydraulic power tools. The occupants of the SUV, an adult and three children, were were not trapped and were immediately taken to the ambulance by emergency personnel. The two occupants of the pickup truck and the adult and two of the children in the SUV sustained what was believed to be moderate injuries. The third child is believed to have sustained possible life-threatening injuries but this cannot be independently confirmed. All occupants were transported in three EMServ ambulances to South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel for treatment.
A section of the highway was completely shutdown during rescue and cleanup operations.
Both volunteer fire departments arrived on scene very quickly due to both departments holding their monthly meetings at their fire stations when the emergency call came through. Several volunteer firefighters and emergency personnel were on scene.
Emergency personnel on scene included Glade and Powers Volunteer Fire Departments, EMServ Ambulance Service, Jones County Fire Coordinator Dan McKenna, Jones County Sheriff's Department, Mississippi Highway Patrol, Jones County District Attorney Wayne Black and Jones County Fire Public Information Officer Caleb Worrell.
Fire apparatus on scene included Glade Heavy Rescue, Engine 1 and Brush; Powers Heavy Rescue, Engine 1 and Brush.
