JONES COUNTY, Miss. - This is a press release from the Jones County Volunteer Fire Department.
A home is a total loss after fire consumed most of the structure early Tuesday morning. At around 4:15 a.m., units from Calhoun, Pleasant Ridge, Hebron and Soso Volunteer Fire Departments, as well as Ellisville Fire Department responded to the scene of the fully involved house fire at 16 Lovers Lane. When firefighters arrived on scene, they immediately began an exterior attack on the left and right sides of the structure, foregoing any attempt to make an interior attack due to the fact that the entire home was already consumed in fire.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze quickly but it appeared that the fire had spread quickly throughout the home, leaving almost nothing untouched. The home is considered to be a total loss.
A man that was leasing the home stated that his wife woke him up during the night and said that the house was on fire. He said he found a small fire in the bathroom, extinguished it with water, and returned to bed. He then stated sometime later his wife woke him again and said the entire house was on fire. At that point, he smelled smoke and realized that he was surrounded by flames. He and his wife were able to safely exit the home.
Firefighters were on scene for about two hours performing firefighting and overhaul operations. A section of Lovers Lane was impassible due to emergency vehicles.
The cause of the fire is unknown, and no injuries were reported.
Emergency personnel on scene included Calhoun, Pleasant Ridge, Hebron and Soso Volunteer Fire Departments, Ellisville Fire Department and Jones County Fire Public Information Officer Caleb Worrell.
Fire apparatus on scene included Calhoun Engine, Tanker, Rescue and Brush; Pleasant Ridge Engine; Hebron Engine and Tanker; Soso Tanker; and Ellsville Engine.
