HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Sacred Heart first grade students teamed up with Salvation Army to debut its annual Angel Tree campaign at Turtle Creek Mall Friday afternoon.
The students of Sacred Heart kicked-off the campaign and sang Christmas songs for those in attendance.
The Angel Tree campaign is an opportunity for people to pick Christmas gifts for young children who are in need of Christmas gifts this holiday season.
“Gifts are being given to children whose parents have fallen on hard times, maybe there has been a crisis, lost a job, fire, illness, different kind of crisis that would prevent them from being able to provide Christmas to their children" said Salvation Army's Captain (Capt.) Stacey Connelly.
This year Hattiesburg Salvation Army will have 1,200 kids that are on their Angel Tree list.
Capt. Connelly said, “The residents of the Pine Belt if they would, out of their generosity of their hearts they select an Angel, they shop for that Angel, and then they provide the toys and bring it back to us, and we distribute those to the parents so they are able to wrap them and give it to their children.”
