Thanksgiving gas prices at a low, Pine Belt residents take advantage
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - According to Triple A nearly 50 million people will be traveling 50 miles or more this holiday weekend.
Triple A said national gas prices are at its lowest this holiday. The average gas price in Mississippi is $1.95.
Consumer Affairs reports the average prices of fuel has fallen steadily since November 6 and drivers in 45 states and the District of Columbia are now paying less than they were last week.
For Pine Belt motorists the trend is moving in the right direction this holiday break and beyond.
Brett Schweinberger a student said, "My mom just had surgery she lives up in Chicago and so we are headed up back that way. He continued, "The low gas prices are helping me out, I’m a student so I am on a budget, and having low gas prices is helping me get home for the holidays.”
Another resident, John Fairley told FOX 23 news with the low gas prices he is headed to Gulfport. “Gulfport. Play some casinos, family friends, relatives and stuff that I am going to see" said Fairley.
“I am going to go to New Orleans, and then I am going to visit some family and have turkey and dressing" said Pine Belt resident Beverly Gallavan.
She added, " I drive about a thousand miles a week in my car, so gas prices being low. Great.”
