OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss’s Student Body Committee attempted to make its community a “Sanctuary City” for illegal immigrants by scheduling a resolution vote.
But, an outpouring of complaints from Ole Miss alumni forced a postponement of the vote.
Senator, Chris McDaniel said, "The state of Mississippi has a right to instruct Ole Miss not to allow ‘Sanctuary Cities’ to be created. If the student body goes through with this and the Ole Miss administration decides to go forward with that idea, the legislation is going to have no choice but to step in and put a stop to it. And the point is, if they do, we cannot condone lawlessness. There's not going to be ‘Sanctuary Cities’ in the state of Mississippi. It's just not going to happen."
McDaniel said if the university disobeys the law, revenue sources should be defunded from Ole Miss as the penalty.
