Christian Services passes out coats for cold weather, donations needed

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Christian Services passed out more than 80 jackets and blankets to the less fortunate Thursday. The organization said temperatures are dropping and they wanted to ensure those in need stay warm.

“Unfortunately they will be cold, we also offer blankets as well, some of them have whats on their backs" said Christian Services Coordinator Corita Burks.

She continued, "That’s what they have and sometimes then its not thick or its not heavy, to block the cold.”

Burks said the organization wants to give back to the community. This season where the temperatures are changing and its getting lower, we just wanted to give them some hope to let them know there is somebody who cares about them that they are taken care of and provided for.”

One recipient Elijah Pittman said, "I am kind of thankful cuz, its really cold out here, you know and, I only have one or two other jackets, so I appreciate it.”

Although they passed out a handful of warm attire, it still needs donations from the Pine Belt residents.

The organization said they especially need child jackets. You can donate Monday-Friday.
