Free trolley ride for New Year's Eve weekend

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The end of 2016 is right around the corner and the city is rolling in free and extended trolley rides Friday and Saturday.

The service is expecting a large volume of rides this weekend and will even have a second vehicle in services.

The routes can take you from midtown, downtown, and back. Grove Transit and Hattiesburg Trolley Director Dan Reid said its takes about an hour to around the entire city.

“Most New Year’s Eves we have a lot of volume, we want to make sure that people get around town safely, and economically its free" said Reid.

The free and extended ride is provided by several restaurants and night times establishments. Reid said its an alternative and safe way for residents to celebrate and avoid drinking and driving.

He added, "We just figured we would put another vehicle out there so that we can get anyone who wants to ride a ride.”
