HPD finds another card skimmer on U.S. Highway 49
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - It is becoming a little too familiar in the Pine Belt. Police said they found another hidden card skimmer at Maples gas station on Highway 49.
Lieutenant (Lt.) Jon Traxler with the Hattiesburg Police Department said around 12:30 Friday afternoon police received a call from the gas station of a possible card skimmer.
After taking one of the gas pumps apart police found another device.
Lt. Traxler said authorities do not know when the device was installed. Officials are warning residents to check their bank statements for any fraudulent activity.
“If they used Maples gas station, before noon today, in the past week, maybe even two weeks, we do not know, be mindful of that, watch your bank accounts, watch your credit card statements, if you see any kind of illegal activity on there, be sure to give us a call" he said.
"So that we can get a report done for you and do an investigation on that as well" Lt. Traxler added.
