Petal disaster recovery center to close Friday, Hattiesburg DRC stays open

PETAL, Miss. - The Petal Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) will close Friday. The Hattiesburg DRC will remain open until further notice according to FEMA officials.

The Petal DRC assisted over 700 people since President Donald Trump signed a Federal Disaster Assistance Declaration in Mississippi last month.

FEMA Spokesman Alberto Pillot said, " Our deadline is coming up, so March 27 is our deadline."

He continued, "We want to make sure that everybody, if you have any questions, or any concerns, any documentation you have to bring to FEMA, remember to come to the recovery center, and see a representative right away and get that documentation ready.”

Since Trump's Federal Disaster Declaration, FEMA has approved $2.8 million dollars statewide and has submitted 2,100 applications for assistance .

The Hattiesburg DRC is located at the C.E. Roy Community Center.

The Petal DRC hours is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
