Mayor DuPree seeking re-election, files to run 5th term
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree said he will seek another term as Hattiesburg's mayor.
DuPree made the announcement and filed as a Democrat at City Hall Thursday afternoon with his family. He has been in office the last 16 years.
“One of the greatest honors, is for the citizens of Hattiesburg to allow me to serve as mayor" he said.
"It is one of things I could not even imagine to me, Johnny DuPree that actually grew up and be the mayor of this city. I love my job, I love what I do" DuPree added.
State Representative Toby Barker filed his qualifying papers Tuesday to run as an Independent as well as perennial candidate Shawn O'Hara.
The deadline to file for Mayor and City Council is Friday at 5 p.m.
