Disaster recovery center is still open in Hattiesburg

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Petal recently closed its disaster recovery center; but, Hattiesburg still has its disaster recovery center open at the C.E. Roy Community Center.

The assistance registration deadline will be closing in the next few weeks. Officials are encouraging every storm victim to register if they have not already done so.

Public Information Officer, Alberto Pillot said, "Homeowners, if you've already settled with your insurance company and you're still waiting for FEMA for any determination from the grant, you have to come to the recovery center and submit your settlement papers that's a part of the process. Anybody who is a homeowner who hasn't applied with FEMA yet, you can still apply to FEMA, you just have to remember you have to call your insurance first, and settle with them. And, then bring all the proper documentation's in specific to that settlement."

Pillot said if you have any determination letters, you have up to 60 days to appeal it.

The disaster recovery center is open Monday-Saturday.
