LPD warnings residents of card skimmers

LAUREL, Miss. - The following is a press release from the Laurel Police Department.

The Laurel Police Department would like to warn the public of scams currently being attempted in our region. Gas pump credit card skimmers are a growing trend in the United States and although there have been no reports in Laurel, LPD would like to suggest the following:

  1. Before you slide your card, pull on the housing to ensure a device has not been placed on the reader.

  2. Check the locking mechanism to the pump for damage and report it to the store clerk.

  3. Check with the store to see if they use security tape, check and report any damage to the clerk.

  4. If possible, monitor your credit card purchases regularly.

  5. If you do not feel comfortable, use cash or your credit card inside the store.

Please report any issue to the store clerk and to LPD. As always, any persons with information about criminal activity may contact LPD or Crime Stoppers at 601-428-STOP.
