Bolton's sentenced to federal prison, paying restitution

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Former Forrest County Chief Deputy Charles Bolton and his wife, Linda Bolton, were sentenced Friday at the Federal Courthouse downtown.

The Bolton's were both indicted March 2016 on 10 counts of tax evasion and filing false tax returns. Judge Keith Starrett sentenced Charles to 45 months and Linda to 30 months in prison.

The couple is ordered to pay $145,849.78 in restitution. The couple has to report voluntarily to federal prison within 60 days.

Both Charles and Linda were found guilty September 2016.

Charles was found guilty on 9 counts of tax evasion and not guilty on 1 count of tax evasion in 2009. His wife, Linda, was found guilty of 5 counts of tax evasion, not guilty on 1 count of tax evasion in 2009, and 4 counts of mistrial.
