PURVIS, Miss. - Wounded Minutemen of Mississippi raised more than $52,000 for wounded veterans across the state Monday during its 7th Annual Golf Tournament and Fundraiser.

The organization hosted an all-day golf tournament at Purvis Pine Creek. Co-Chair of Wounded Minutemen, Johnny Sellers said there were 160 golfers signed up and all proceeds helped 14 veterans with medical bills and more.

“They have to come back, and transition back to civilian life, and when they do they got all kind of its issues and problems, and that being said we try to fill the void financially for them" said Sellers.

William Brooks served overseas in Baghdad in 2005. Brooks said he lost both knees when he hit a road side bomb.

Brooks said, "Yeah it means a lot especially all these years later people still care and want to help vets and wounded vets, it’s a big deal for our families.”

Manager of Pine Creek Chad Vivien said they help host the tournament and fundraiser at no cost.

Vivien said, “These guys make the ultimate sacrifice for us. And the least we could do is take a day out of our week and to show them how much we appreciate them."

He added, "Not only is it the people who served our country, but it’s the people who need it the most."

Sellers said they hope to raise even more money and help more wounded veterans for next year's golf tournament.
