City of Hattiesburg hosts disABILITY Awareness event

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The city of Hattiesburg hosted its 2nd Annual DisABILITY Awareness event Wednesday at the Jackie Dole Center.

There were around 20 vendors that provided information to 100 residents. It offered blood pressure, cholesterol testing, and even legal counseling .

"It is extremely important in our community because we have so many who are disabled here. And along with that we have many organizations who like to serve the disabled" said Katie Weeks the city's Disability Coordinator.

She added, "And the idea behind DisABILITY Awareness Day is that to connect our community with those who are there to help.”

Vendors also provided information on supportive living, insurance coverage, and housing assistance.
