Local church continues long term recovery efforts after January tornado, volunteers needed

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The McDowell-Nance Temple church in Hattiesburg continues to collect items for victims of the deadly E-F3 tornado January.

A temporary disaster relief center is set up Friday and Saturday to help with the long term recovery efforts.

Pastor Paul Brent said the church is in need of volunteers to help with the organization and distribution of the items.

“Let them know that we do care about their long term recovery process. We also want to make sure that they have the needs of being met" said Pastor Brent.

He continued, "Some of the times FEMA and MEMA does run out for awhile however, we are still here in the community to let them know that we do have things that they need.”

The church collected thousands of clothes, food, water, shoes and utilities according to Pastor Brent. The items will be distributed to the American Red Cross and the Field House Homeless Shelter.

If you would like to volunteer you can call (601) 336-3442.
