Hattiesburg Zoo prepares for its birthday bash

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Hattiesburg Zoo is celebrating its 67th birthday Saturday and will give everyone an opportunity to experience the zoo like they have never seen before.

Animal care manager, Stephen Taylor said, "Saturday is a wonderful day for guests to come out. You get to see something you don't normally get to see here at the zoo. There's a lot of behind the scene areas that the zookeepers operate in and perform all of our daily task. That day you'll be able to tour the animal kitchen, the quarantine area, the Asbury on the inside. And you'll be able to pay $5 to do a tiger tour. You'll get to go back and see the tiger holding area. You'll get an up and close personal experience with tigers, and lots of day-to-day procedures that we go through in zookeeping as far as the medical field, and the diets, and all kinds of interesting stuff like that."

There will also be an "Exploding Pies" science experiment that will be conducted at the Flamingo Pavilion.

Admission is $10 and children under the age of 2 get in for free.

The birthday bash will be from 10-5 p.m.
