City recognizes WWII Columbia Veteran

HATTIESBURG, MS. - The city of Hattiesburg recognized a World War II veteran from Columbia Monday at Coney Island restaurant.


Mayor Johnny DuPree gave Henry Bennett a WWII coin. Bennett is honored by the city for his 30 missions flying a B-24 aircraft over Germany. Bennett recently flown in a remodeled B-24 aircraft in Gulfport with the Wings of Freedom Tour.



“It was really an honor, I mean it was humbling, I didn’t think I expect it, but they said I deserved it" said Bennett.
