MS Senator Sally Doty encouraging teenagers to run for office

HATTIESBURG, MS. - Approximately 280 young women from across the state will make The University of Southern Mississippi’s Hattiesburg campus their temporary home this week for the 69th session of the American Legion Auxiliary Magnolia Girls State.

Guest Speaker, MS. Senator Sally Doty is encouraging the teenagers to be active in the political realm.

"I am excited about the opportunity to talk to these girls and encourage them, to be involved in the political process and the future by either running for office, supporting others who run for office, or that are working towards an appointment position" said Doty.

Girls State is a week long program that provides select rising high school seniors hands-on learning opportunities about the inner workings of federal, state and local government through simulated political campaigns, legislative and judicial processes in the fictitious state of “Magnolia.”

"There are so many ways (to be involved in the political realm), and we need more women in office in Mississippi.”

The girls last day at the Southern Miss campus is Friday.
