Hub-City Transit opens temporary location

HATTIESBURG, MS. - The Hub-City Transit opened its news location on West Pine Street Thursday.

Officials held a ribbon cutting after the transit's original location on James Street received damage from the deadly E-F3 tornado in January.

According to Hub-City Transit Division Manager Vincent Nelms the original location took a direct hit from the tornado.

"We had over 15 buses all of them were damaged, except for 4 that was in the shop at that time" said Nelms.

Coast Transit in Gulfport helped the organization get back on its feet. Nelms said Coast Transit loaned Hattiesburg 5 vehicles."We have about 8 buses now that are running, and we are waiting for 6 more in the shop." Nelms added.

“We take people to work, to pick up their kids, daycare, I mean in any vibrant city, you would have a major transit system, and Hattiesburg is part of that" he said.

According to Nelms Hub-City Transit will be at the temporary location for at least a year. Nelms said officials are working on finding a permanent home.
