Hattiesburg, MS. - The University of Southern Mississippi presented an economic impact study Thursday to showcase the $1.4 billion contribution made across 19 counties across the Pine Belt.
USM's Trent Lott National Center of Economic Development completed the study to show that three entities generate $129.9 million in federal taxes, $49 million in state taxes and $8.6million in local taxes. This ultimately supported 10,670 jobs and disbursed more than $1.494 million in sponsorships, employee contributions and fundraising events.
The study used 2016 data and was done within six months. Forrest General Hospital paid approximately $50,000 and provided information such as; pay and benefits, number of employees, expenditures and revenue.
