Hundreds of golfers participate in Magnolia Amateur

July 6, 2017

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The 6th annual Magnolia Amateur will begin Friday at the Hattiesburg Country Club.

156 players from across the country, Canada, Columbia, and Australia are participating in this tournament, and are hoping to win.

Many players were on the green Thursday practicing and getting familiar with the course.

University of Tennessee golfer, Brayden Garrison said, "I saw the results from this tournament last year and I was excited to come by. I've heard good things about this event. I had a couple teammates play in it last year, and I want to come out here and test my game on this golf course."

"I think more on the mental game just keep improving on that side of my game because that's the difference between the good and the great players. And right now I'm looking forward to testing it out again this week at the Magnolia," said University of Kentucky golfer, Fadhli Soetarsl.

"This golf course seems like it's a lot of 2 irons and wedges, which is good for my game. But there are a couple tricky holes that you need to take advantage of. And I think if you play those holes pretty well, you'll have a good shot to win this event," said Garrison.

"I'm looking forward to building a good game plan this week and hopefully just to be in contention come Sunday," said Soetarsl.

There will be two waves on Friday and Saturday. The low 72 players and ties will be cut after Saturday's round. The winner will be crowned Sunday.
