Lamar County School District needs donations for its backpack program
LAMAR COUNTY, Miss. - The Lamar County School District is in need of financial donations for its backpack program.
This program allows students who are in need to bring nonperishable food items home for the weekend.
The school district served 141 students last year, and is expecting an uptick in students this year.
Superintendent, Dr. Tess Smith said, "We just want them to make sure they have enough food over the weekend, because we know how badly important it is to growth, maturity. But especially, we're growing those little brains. So we want them to have plenty of food, so they can be sustained over the weekend."
Smith said the students’ names are kept confidential with this program.
If you would like to donate, you can do so through the Lamar County Education Foundation.
