North Jones Elementary School adds more security
JONES COUNTY, Miss. - A nearby shooting took place at a local elementary school last week, and there has been increased security for that campus this week.
Jones County Superintendent, Tommy Parker said gunshots were fired in the woods near North Jones Elementary School Friday, August 18 around 2:20 p.m. Buses were parked at the time, but no kids were outside during the time of the shooting.
Administration put the school on lockdown. Deputies investigated the area around North Jones Elementary School, but did not find anything.
School dismissal was delayed 30 minutes, due to the investigation.
Officials believe the unknown person shooting the gun was not intending to shoot in the direction of the school.
