HS Game of the Week: Laurel vs. Oak Grove

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Laurel will be traveling to Hattiesburg Friday to take on the Oak Grove Warriors.

The Golden Tornadoes are coming off a tough loss against Hattiesburg, and are looking to be (2-1). And the Warriors are trying to get their third win in a row.

"We're both athletic. We've both got some really good defenses, and I think it's going to be a great ball game," said Oak Grove head coach, Drew Causey.

"Oak Grove is probably playing better than anybody in the state right now. So, it's going to be a challenge. It's a great place to go play, and we're looking forward to it," said Laurel head coach, Todd Breland.

Oak Grove is led by quarterback, John Rhys Plumlee who has completed 86% of his passes, thrown for nearly 500 yards and seven touchdowns, and has not thrown a single interception. He also has rushed for over 100 yards and three touchdowns.

"I really tried to improve on throwing the ball a little bit better, getting on the same page with receivers. And o-line has given me plenty of time to make throws where I need to put the ball. And it's just all coming together. I think we're going to have a good year," said Plumlee.

Laurel will do everything in its power to frustrate Plumlee.

"We got to stop that first quarter. Establish our defense first quarter. Get him out of his rhythm, and just take away his targets," said Laurel defensive back, Jamison Hyatt.

These two teams have prepared all week to play each other, and will do everything they can to come out on top.

"We set the tone really for the whole game, just the team. They feed off of us getting the tone. So, that's what we try to do," said Oak Grove linebacker, Hayes Maples.

"They play quick and hard. And I just got to play hard. I got to play well and compete," said Laurel left tackle, Charles Cross.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
